Can they be removed or just adjusted ? Looks easy but thought I would ask before I did something I shouldn't have.

 

they can be tricky, i accidentally broke one of the clips on one of mine.

i would recommend spraying some lube (rust chek or something, never use WD 40 as it dries things out)

then gently pull up on the clip until it releases, once released on each side, the cross bar can slide.

if you want them off, just carefully remove the front or rear plastic end cap and slide them off.
