Just to bring some closure to the thread, I did go ahead and purchase another one off of ebay. The seller was kind enough to post some pictures of the clips next to a ruler, as RX330inFL suggested.

For reference, in case folks find themselves in a similar situation in the future, here are the differences in the clips between the tonneau covers meant for vehicles manufactured in North America (Canada) versus those manufactured in Japan:

The cover I just purchased (for North American-manufactured vehicles):


It's pretty clear that the openings on the clips for the vehicles manufactured in japan are significantly wider than those of the other clips. The clips are visibly different in other ways as well.
