brake replacement from dealer
I would definetly have a talk with the service manager, and politely tell them that the brake job was outragous and ask for a refund of at least 2/3 of the money...Like said previously the rotors should have been covered under warranty, and that is a lot of labor time to do something that takes me less than two hours to do in my home garage.
I just did new brakes front and rear for $375 on a 08 RX350 at the dealer. No new rotors , just turned. I had hoped to do it myself but like the OP my wife just doesn't like me to touch this car. I just did new brakes,rotors,calipers and brake lines on my truck but not the RX
It is not unusual that pads have to be replaced at 25K miles, but it is highly unusual that rotors (front and back at the same time!!!) do.
Since you rightfully started to suspect that your dealer took you for a ride, I would check if car indeed has new rotors installed.
Also, $596.00 in labor is stiff. The car must have been in their shop for at least 4 hours, most likely for 5 hours (depending on labor rate). Ask your wife how long she had to wait, if she did.
I would see dealer’ GM and discuss the case, explaining that quick one time profit will lead to loss of customer on the long run. You may not get your money back, but GM can offer you “coupon” for $XXX towards next service(s). Negotiate your case and $$ very hard, but nicely.

Yes you got screwed on this deal. Did you get a kiss out of it?. I had over 60k miles on my 2005 330 before the pads had to be replaced. And it was only $350 to do both ends of the car at the Toyota dealer you might want to think about taking it there from now on. Looks like you have a Lexus Stealership working on you car right now.

We have 100,000 kms on my wife's RX350, and we tend to drive a little more aggressively than most. our brake pads front are almost done, the rear's not quite as bad.
I am going to attempt a replacement of front and rear rotors and pads myself. That's not bad mileage for replacement in my books. I've dealt with turned rotors before and i won't do it again.

I had exact same experience at a Lexus dealer for warranty repair. The service reps told me that my pads are down to 1mm and needs to be replaced. It happened to me that I did a tire rotate couple weeks ago and I measured the thickness of the pad. It was 7mm. There is no reason in couple of weeks, it is down to 4mm. Apprently the service rep tried to get more revenue. I told him to only perform the warranty repair and that is the en do fthe story.
I am having oil coolant hose replace, emergency brake replace, all pads and rotors replaced, power steering rack, coolant lines and alignment for $2600 on my 350 that is 2008 and over 110,000 miles
I just purchased my first lexus(rx350) on Tuesday. I sure hope it doesn’t need a 4 wheel brake job by 25k mileage. I have a 2011 Honda CR-V with 123,000 miles. I replaced the front pads at 96k even though I could have went another 15k. The rear are original pads. Still have 15k left on them. At least.
Wow, 6 years later and this thread is still going! Is that a record? Ha! Anyway, 6 years later and I'm still driving that Lexus (AND my old Saturn!), but live about 900 miles from where I did before. I have 2 mechanics now - one in the neighborhood for routine jobs, and one cross-town for the BIG jobs. Neither are the dealer; the dealer does not exist in my world any longer! Perhaps with age & experience does come wisdom after all.

No way the brake pads and rotors need to be replaced after just 25k (unless you're riding your brakes the whole way).
Take it to a Toyota Dealer service or indie shop and ask them for brake inspection.

it (replace it before worn out - think tires and brakes) may be more common on expensive cars like Lexi and BMW etc as they feel you have plenty of money and may not be car savy. Based on my one trip with a friends car to a lexus dealership .
So no more updates?
This is a great post for some chuckles....
They know the owners are not car savvy and don't shop around and get quotes from other independent shops, so they price accordingly.
