I have an 07' RX350 with about 60k miles, and a couple of days ago it began making a noise when I have pressure on the gas peddle.

It sounds like there is whole in the exhaust. However, if I roll the windows down the noise is not any more noticable, and it does not occur when engine is reved while in neutral.

Also, I have noticed that it kicks in when I get to 20-25 mph, and then stops when I get over 45-50 mph.

Anyone have any ideas to the cause?

Dealer wants to charge me minimum $65 to look at it, plus any additional time required to diagnose. I have read about issues with carrier bearings on these models, and that would be under warrenty. Actually, all the power and drive trane would be covered. That is why I am thinking of taking it to dealer.

If you can have it covered than I recommend taking it in to the dealer. Any variation in RPM range? The noise I mean.

 

my 07 rx 350, was making a noise upon acceleration. not at no load (Park) at idle.

in drive it was like a whining noise. Dealer diagnosed as Idler bearing failure, got it replaced
and no more noises.

 

Okay here is the update if anyone cares.

Took it to dealer, and they said the bushings around the bearings are shot. That is like $600. If the actual bearing is shot that is another $700. Then there are sensors for the anit-lock brakes some how involved. I guess it is common for those difficult to remove without damaging due to rust. If that is the case it is another $750 per sensor. So, worst case scenerio is a $2400+/- bill.

They were looking in to whether it was "covered" by the powertrane warrenty.

So the dealer called back and said it was the actual "knuckle" that was bad, and that it is covered under warranty. If they pull that off and find the carrier bearing is also bad, that too would be covered by warranty. However, the the two "anti-lock sensors" would not be covered if they cannot remove them without damaging them. Those a $750 a pop. Time to keep my fingers crossed.
