2004 rx330 upper idler pulley noise
been having a problem with the timing belt upper idler pulley making noise when engine is hot (running temp) but no noise form upper idler when cold. been replace 3 times still same noise.Timing belt, water pump, belt tensionor, upper and lower idler pulley.thanks for the help
Describe the noise friend.
The idler pulleys do have washers (maybe called spacers in that case) that need to go on in the proper order. I would try and replicate the sound using engine RPM at idle or while driving at low temp to see if that is possible.
Isolate WHEN and WHAT causes the noise and that is your first step to trouble shooting. You could even have a belt issue or alternator pulley issue. I've known A/C clutches to make noises when warm as well.
Try seeing if turning off the A/C makes a difference when hearing the noise. Also have your alternator checked.
What type of mileage do you have on the vehicle?
Need more details than "a noise from timing belt pulley" friend in order to help.

Have a look at upper belt cover on block side (cover #3 I recall)... Is there an even space at timing cover seal, or is it warped or bent (perhaps from prying open to squeeze water pump in and out, if wp changed with cover in place)? If bent, could hit idler at op temp. Try carefully bending straight with big screwdriver, or replace.
Hope this helps!
