Complaint letter/call to Lexus about poor design

Recently, the rear quarter panel plastic piece was "flown off" of my vehicle and I am told I have to replace the whole window just to order the plastic piece. The window (~$169) labor (~100?) just for a measly piece of plastic. I would at least expect some clips to hold the piece instead of 3M tape on a 40K vehicle.

Where should I go from here? The nearest Lexus dealer is about an hour away. I received a letter about extended automotive coverage (I purchased my RX used--and not from Lexus?) so a trip might be needed.

I'd think you might be able to find that piece at a salvage yard. There must be some wrecked RX330, 350, 400 somewhere.

Thanks for the response. I have looked at a few salvage yards but an RX, let alone any Lexus is very rare in my area.

There is an extensive forum post of over five pages on this topic (see link below). At least one owner talked to Lexus corporate headquarters and got the window and trim replaced for free.

Call the Lexus 800 # and get a case number. You never know. God luck.

Damn, that just happened to me the other day - Rear passenger side and lost the piece on the highway. All this time the car is parked outside with drizzling rain and I don't seems to have any leak. Now, have to do more reading on the fix and maybe making the call to Lexus corp as stated above. If it does not cause any leakage, I may just leave it as is - hardly noticed the piece is missing since everything is black.

Is just trim and not functional or needed to keep water out of the vehicle. If the window has a good seal that is sufficient.
