Purchase off-lease 2008 Lexus RX350
In mid-July, I purchased my parents' off-lease vehicle via the dealer who originally leased the vehicle to my parents. My parents have leased another RX350 since they were so happy with the first. My temporary registration has since expired (20 days) and after quite a few calls to the dealer, they have given me a loaner vehicle (which was so filthy from previous drivers - possible blood in the back) until my license plates came in. I've talked in person with various managers who inform me that the paperwork takes a long time to re-register the car, etc. and since it is an out-of-state purchase, it takes even longer. I live in NY and the dealer is in NJ. Well, it's been well over 30 days since the purchase date and still no plates! I call the dealer and they like to point me to the original salesperson who proves not to be helpful. I am so disappointed since I cannot legally drive my own car. Can anyone help me? Advice?

Welcome to CL.
It sounds like the dealer screwed up the paperwork with DMV. I'd have them give you temp tags until your license plate comes in. It happened when my parents leased an RX from FL.

it sounds like the dealer messed something up on the title and that's why it is taking such a long time to correct the issue. did you finance or purchased it out right? if you get the title in-hand, you might be surprised to see a brand new title written in your name. that will prove my theory.

i bought a BMW from NJ and I also live in NY. It did take a while to get the plates in, because I remember the dealer offered to give me extended temporary plates if my did not arrive. As everyone said I don't know why they gave you a loaner?

True, NJ DMV can be a royal PITA. Don't dare screw up anything on the paperwork. One small mistake and it can take forever to correct it. This is per my brother-in-law who has his NJ dealer's license.

You bought a car, you should be able to drive it as long as your insurance has it covered wand while the DMV is working on the paperwork (which you paid for, too).
