I also like the WIX filter. To clarify it's the Napa Gold line that's made by WIX. If you want them even cheaper, buy them online from fleetfilter.com. I buy about 6 to spread the cost of shipping.

What's the micron rating on these. All i could pull up is 90% filtration. off hand, I'm not that impressed with that unless that is pulling a very small micron size out of the oil

Those of you with the 2004-2006 RX330 or 2006-2009 RX400h will find that the K&N HP-1002 also works along with the larger K&N HP-2009.
Great Info Thanks!

Last 5 changes, I've used the Purolator Classic 10241 3 times, Fram once and Sears once. Engine was definitely noisier with the PC. Today I put in the Toyota OEM, engine is now much quieter. Something to do with flow rate?Definitely not buying the PC anymore, will stick with OEM. YMMV.

Over at BITOG they talk about engine noise at startup with the Purolator Classic and some quality issues.

A quality oil filter is one place not to cheap out. For a few bucks more, if that, you can get a quality filter such as the OEM and you still have not spent all that much. You can even purchase them from your local Toyota as it is the same filter as the other V6 from Toyota/Lexus.

Personally, I use the WIX/NAPA Gold/CarQuest Blue which are relatively inexpensive and easy to come by in most locations. These are all made by WIX and are almost identical though they may differ in some small regards such as the number of pleats in the filter material. I grab the WIX brand whenever possible for all my filter needs with NAPA being my backup choice.

Thanks, that's great to know.
I've had excellent experiences with K&N filters on other engines, including some pretty high performance stuff. So, I'd love to go for it on my next oil change on my 2008 400h, and even more so if a bigger filter can fit.
Are you positive that the HP-2009 can be installed with no problem whatsoever?

Update on my previous question to Lexmex:

I had the opportunity to check side by side the K&N filters HP-1002 and HP-2009 at an Auto Parts store, and I can confirm that they are identical, aside from the latter being much longer (5" vs, 3" 3/4).
Also K&N website confirms that all other specs of the two filters are exactly the same.
Now, the only concern is, could the longer size interfere with anything on the 400h, either while fitting or also when installed?
Unfortunately, I'm travelling at the moment and can't check directly on mine how much clearance there is around the oil filter, but since I must change the oil and filter upon my return, I'd really appreciate if anyone could have a look and report.
This way, I could have the filter and oil shipped directly at home and ready by the time I'll be back...
Many thanks in advance!

Oh, and for the records, I compared also the Mobil 1 filters.
The M1-102 is the equivalent of the OEM and of the K&N HP-1002, but there is also a M1-209 which is - you guessed it - identical to the HP-2009. Therefore, if there's enough space for a longer filter, the M1-209 could be another good alternative.

Below are the a list of popular brands larger size equivalent of the standard size filter. There's no different in them other than size and capacity. I have used them all ( I can't speak to other brand) and could not tell much difference between these 4 brands. I run my car about 5000-6000 miles per year and have been using Mobil Extended Performances 5W-30 Synthetic oil over the last 2 years. Due to the low mileages, I change my oil once a year, but change my filter about every 3000 miles. No issue. I have 2 of the larger M1-209 Mobil 1 filters and 10 Toyota 90915YZZD3 OEM laying around. Got the mobil 1 as part of the oil purchase and bought a case of the Toyota online for about $6-7 a piece - great values! For this winter, I'll try out the Mobile 1 0W-20, if there's no problem I want to also try out the Amsoil 0w-20 (they are more expensive! ) next year to see if either one would improve my MPG. I believe there's a chart somewhere that Toyota/Lexus issued that stated that it's safe to use 0w-20 oil on the 04 Rx330.

K&N
HP-1002 = HP-2009

Puralator PureOne
PL10241 = PL20195 (What I have in my 04 RX330 at the moment)

Mobil 1
M1-102 = M1-209

Toyota OEM
90915YZZD1 = 90915YZZD3

Yes, according to the Lexus "oil application chart", for all the non-hybrid RX (300/330/350, from 1999 to 2009), the alternatives are 5W-30, 5W-20, and 0W-20.

I assume from your reply that you only used the longer filter on the 330, right?
Still hoping that someone can confirm if it fits also the 400...
The engine is the same, but the 400 has some more stuff in the engine compartment!

Yes, I ONLY use the longer filter. If the size and pressure are the same, and you can fit into the space, I see no reason why not. You might have to just add a little more oil because the filter are larger. For me, I do 2 filter change per oil change, I have to add about 1/5 of qt in during the second filter change because some oil come out during the filter change.

I agree. I just would love to be sure that it doesn't interfere with any other bits in the 400h...
...if any owner could kindly have a look, I'd really appreciate!

OEM all the way. Better yet use the bigger filter that is used on the SC430, it ends in 3. RX ends in 1or 0. Same specs, but longer in length.

Turns out that afternarket filters are the same if you check BM Auto stores.

But if you ordered from Lexus/Toyota, they are 2 unique part numbers and they are different in length.

I am actually using the short RX filter on my SC. Ran out of the longer ones. I know right, am I damaging my SC? Do not think so. But I sure will get the longer ones shortly.

Try it.

Local Toyota dealers usually have coupons for filters for ~$3 each
