07+ is using WS fluid.....

 

I traded in my old 1999 RX 300 with 128,000 miles on it in 2010 to a Toyota dealership. I owned it since it had 50,000 miles and NEVER had any tranny problem with it. In retrospect, I wish I was still running around in it. I'm currently in a 2007 RX 350 and fighting a stubborn CEL. #%$@!!

 

What is a stubborn CEL? And did you get to 128000 miles with or without ever changing the tranny fluid?

 

If you are so worried about the the tranny fluid, just change it.

Yeah, I probably will...or won't! I guess I am not convinced that changing the fluid will "first do no harm". It's not clear that it won't "stir something up" and that doing nothing...at least now at 45,000 miles/6 years, is the better path. But it's also not clear that doing nothing is the right thing either. So I'm trying to gauge how these trannys are holding up without fluid changes. My inclination is to pass on the tranny fluid change and in another 4-5 years, if I decide to keep the vehicle even longer (doubtful), do it then.

 

I am approaching 128000 miles, and haven't experienced any problems(knock on wood), but most of those miles are freeway miles. I would say close to 90 percent is freeway miles.

 

Ever changed the fluid?

 

May I ask why do you keep asking every member on this thread if they have ever changed their fluid? Like I said if you are so worried about the tranny fluid, you should just go and have it changed for peace of mind.

 

Because, as I stated earlier, it's interesting and informative to find out. When someone posts that their tranny lasted X miles, it's more useful to know if it lasted WITH fluid change(s) or without. Is my asking really bothering anyone?

 

I have 04' Lexus RX 330 and I replaced oil at 100,000 mark, thinking it will be better,well it did fix jerk at first but later 15,000 miles tranny is getting worse. It's jerk (like it should be next gear but nothing rpm increasing, then finally kick and next gear is in) between 2 and 3rd gear a lot.

 

Hey were there are gears there is wear....I would never go100k without fluid change,,,,my old RX300 lost its tranny with 100k miles, the fluid had been changed every 30k, however the real culprit was a poor design on the planetary gears, along with a all city commute....Had it been highway miles I expect the tranny would have been still going. the other culprit was the vicous drive system on the AWD for the 99RX....Just too much going on that caused strain on the system....The changes were made, but Lexus kept any information secret to us owners....A tranny shop in my locality lead me to the failed planetary gears, and why it happened. The rebuild included new style carrier along with more gears for support....That is what happens when you get the first year model...i just changed the fluid on my RX400h and the fluid was quite contaminated. Took several changes to get the fluid clean again...but That is how mine will be handled....

 

Then best of luck with that. If you choose to ignore factory recommended intervals, to 'save' 100$ then give'r bud. For the case of T-IV i bought for my ES & dad's RX [at 40$ with extra] I rest assured that the car will run as they should after many miles, and fetch many more.

My ES has 110k on it when changed, dad's RX had ~70k on it. All preventative maintenance 'just in case'

Btw, he has a 2004, AWD and the trans only jerks occasionally when its cold out - no reflash has been performed yet. Might do it in the next little while to see if it'll be buttersmooth.

 

I purchased the car with about 50,000 miles on it. I am sure that the transmission fluid was not changed during owner #1's term, but I obviously do not know for sure.

I did not change the tranny fluid from mile 50k to 128k. The car ran great but it was traded in 2 years ago.

The stubborn-ness of my Check Engine Light has been ignition coils and O2 sensors. It seems they want to get into the Christmas Light Up act this past month.
