Most of us bought our Lexus because of reliability, but if you own owned Lexus for as long as I have, you would know that the Lexus of today id not as reliable as the Lexus of yester-year. In fact, today's Lexus is not as soild as the old ones and quality is down as well.
You should probably stop posting in this thread. Your flip-flopping opinions are just making you look foolish now.

Where is any data to support your points? Your personal anectodal opinions are not facts.

You have gone back to quoting only BMW for some reason when a minute ago you were talking about Benz? 44 more problems per hundred vehicles still works out to a likelyhood of 37% more problems than a Lexus for BMW's, regardless of whatever new number you want to post. Audi is way worse at 72.5% and MB is 79%.

The numbers being discussed as you pointed out yourself are for 2005 models for the past 3 years. That is the most recent data available. How is 2005 not recent models?

I'm not sure if you realize that you're posting in the RX330/350 thread? You questioned the reliability of the RX compared to the Germans and yet refuse to show any data or facts supporting that a German SUV (X5, ML, or Q7) is even remotely close to the RX in reliability.

How long you've owned Lexus or even their current levels of reliability and quality are not relevant to this discussion. You could start another thread in "Car Chat" that you would probably get a great deal of agreement on. However, the bottom line is that Lexus is still NUMBER ONE in terms of reliability, regardless of anything you say. That is statistical fact....try posting one instead of just your baseless opinions.

Guys .. after a long time, we are having a heated discussion/exchange.

May I suggest that, review the post before hitting the "submit" and remove "YOU" as much as possible.

Otherwise this thread may be locked by mods.

Cars are funny... "things." Some of us give them names, baby them more than our spouses, think of them more than just material objects, and of course are very offended when they are blasted for not being "perfect" or when others can't see them for being how great they are. The ones that have strong opinions one way or the other, like conservative-right Republicans or liberal-left Democrats, you will never be able to to change their views or convert NO MATTER what happens. They believe what they believe no matter what society or numbers indicate.

Same with cars... there are Lexus lovers, Lexus haters, and all in betweens. Posts like this are good for argument to see people's "views", but I personally don't see value in one way or the other. I like Lexus and no amount of "decrease" in quality that I feel may or may not be there, will make me at this moment to say "oh, they stink, I'm going to look some where else for a "better" vehicle to get."

just my 2cents.

sorry to hear about your unfortunate experiences with Lexus, probably just your bad luck. The Lexus is by far the most dependable car, I have owned the GX and it still runs like a champ after my lead foot abuse. This is not only my opinion JD POWER and associates gives Lexus the highest dependability rating, and Japanese cars in general come out at the top. European cars are stylish, great, but simply overpriced and not on par with their Asian competitors. Mercedes Benz has been one of the few to finally realize that and as a result there quality has dramatically improved in the recent years:

We had a 99 RX after a Lincoln Mark something. Loved it, but went to a Cadillac SRX in 05 after the lease ended. The ultraview roof was and still is a really neat thing and we have loved it. About the only thing on the SRX. Back to an 09 Pebble Beach. Absolutely love it. Quality, power, amenities - you name it. I am back in the fold.

I am not saying Lexus stinks, after owning one Lexus or another for 15 years, I can say they are simply not as soild as they were when they were 1st introduce, They are not as relaible, built quality and material quality are also not as good. One would have to give Lexus credit for cost cutting and passing that value onto their customers, but you can only cut so much before it catches up to you.
The biggest diff. I have notice between German and Japanese car is that after 5 or 6 years or so, the German cars still drive almost like new, while the japanese starts to show their age. The German's car chassis have less rust and less rattles. The president of Toyota have already acknowledge their decline in quality last year in a speech. hopefully its not a bunch of BS and that they are really going to make some changes to improve things. So far, I havent seen it, but its too early to tell.

Dude you got ripped. I just got an 06 330 awd with 22000 mile for $24000 with the Certified preowned Warranty 100,000 3 years even added the extra 2 years for a total of 5 for $1000 bucks more. If I don't use my warranty in the 4th and 5th year I get my $1000 back. How did the Dealer not give you any warranty?

Last I checked, $22,000 is less than $25,000... so I wouldn't say I got "ripped". Does yours have Navi/premium packages?

Default CarFax

I wouldn't touch any used car without a CarFax report. Maybe your headlight problem is caused by Katrina flooding! Remember, if a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I would unload this car on another one from a reputable dealer.

I'd suggest to WhoMe that CarFax is not very accurate. I know of a friends vehicle that was hit and required over $8K to repair and the CarFax for this vehicle is clean. The driver was hauled off to the ER and a police report was filed. After seeing this, I'd not put much into a clean CarFax report.

For $3000 more than you payed. I got a 5 year 100,000 mile warranty with the Nav/Premium package, back-up camera, Chrome wheels, chrome pipe side runners, They even threw in the all weather mats, and the cargo mat cover. An 06 with 22,000 miles is basically brand new.

I recommend you get rid of the lemon and buy from the dealer. Dealers arn't always the best but at least your covered.

I got both my lexus's from Glendale and they have been really good to me. I get free car washes and when ever I take my IS in for oil change I get a coffee some breakfast and 400h as a loaner for the day. Buy certified preowned for the win.

There are some body shops that will do repairs and not report them to CarFax. It may be one of those things where a body shop has to pay to submit the repair history (like companies have to pay credit card companies to accept their card). CarFax isn't perfect but it is better than nothing on a used car. A couple of hundred bucks for a detailed inspection by a good mechanic is the better option. However, you have to be pretty much satisfied that this is the car you really want before spending that kind of money for the inspection.
