I have both 08rx350 and 02 highlander ltd, both awd models. You're right about the highlander having just a tad more cargo room (on paper?), however what most people dont understand is that highlanders boxy rear hatch makes it much more user friendly and more efficient cargo space...whereas rx350s sloping hatch doesnt help much at all. As far as highlanders handling terribly on the highway? RX and Highlanders ride, and handling is very close imo but I feel that highlander feels more agile in day to day driving around corners. Now that 3.5 v6 on the rx plays with 3L v6 highlander all day long though.

I agree that the cargo area of the RX can be a bit paltry for a growing family, at least when compared with some of the competition. If you want to stay in the same price range, but add a ton of cargo room, the the Acura MDX is an option (provided you can get past the schnoz), as is the Volvo XC90, and the Land Rover LR3 -- all of which happen to feature 3rd rows of varying degrees of usefulness. If you want to step up a bit, the Audi Q7 or Benz GL450 will fill the bill nicely. Moving down-market, you've got the GM Lambda quadruplets --Enclave, Acadia, Outlook, and Traverse -- the Honda Pilot, and of course, the 2nd generation Toyota Highlander to choose from.

Plenty of options out there if you look.

Regards,
Adam
