1) open the glove box
2) two clips on the side of the glove box that are like screws that you twist and remove
3) the entire box lowers even more revealing the air filter (white)
4) squeeze the ends of the air filter tabs and pull the filter out

thanks for the reply, but i am talking about the engine air filter. I figured out the cabin air filter.
There should be a post on this not too long ago. Do a search.
The gist of it is that there are two (three?) captive hex head screws holding the lid down. Remove the air feed line going to the throttle body and then loosen the screws. As I said, they are captive and will loosen but won't come all the way out. Lift up the lid and replace the filter. The two halves of the air box may be "welded" together from heat and dirt but they will come apart is assisted gently.
This is how it works on my 05.

Just changed mine yesterday (engine air filter). Open the hood there's 2(10mm)bolts holding the air box one at each side and you need to snap it out because the back part is snap in to two plastic holder. But first unplug the MAF connector & some air vacuum hose (which I did don't forget to put it back) so its easy for you to pull out the air box cover.
