Atf Change
hi guys,I WANTED TO SHARE THIS WITH YOU,I HAD AN EXPERIMENT WITH MY 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY V6,I USED A SMALL TUBE PUSHED IT IN THE ATF STICK PLACE,AND I SAID I WILL GET SOME ATF FROM THERE,IMAGING I SUCKED 4 QUARTES OF THE FLUID,THAT WHAT CAMRY ALL HAS,POURED OTHER 4 QUARTS,SMOOTH TRANSMISSION,NO DROP OF OIL ON THE GARAGE FLOOR,I WILL TRY ON THE RX WHEN READY.
AFTER YOU TAKE ALL THE FLUID OUT ONE MAY TAKE THE PAN FROM BELOW AND CLEAN.

The trouble with your technique is that all you are doing is emptying the transmission pad while leaving about eight more quarts in the torque converter, the transmission cooler and lines. In addition, by dropping the pan, you are now duplicating the work you just accomplished by drawing the ATF out through the dipstick.
I believe that the archives have this discussion. What I did was drop the ATF drain plug and remove the old ATF in the pan. Refilled and drove the car for a week. Dropped the plug one more time and repeated this. The next week I did the same thing.

I'm hoping my '04 has a drain plug as well. My concern with the vacuum oil extractors is that they leave sludge and metal filings in the bottom of the pan, and these are usually washed out in a complete drain. The drain plug works quickly and easily on the Lexus/Toyota automatic transmissions and I have not found it to be sloppy. Nevertheless, there's something to be said for doing it all from the top side and not having to roll around on the floor. Either way, you're so much ahead of the people who just leave the factory fill in there!
Drain and Fill works, but when you get to the 100K mile mark, maybe you should drop the pan. My mechanic cranks the engine while the plug is off and out comes the ATF oil....from the torque converter, I have not asked him to do it on my cars....but he says, it works.
