I usually change air filter (both engine and cabin) when the filter is dirty. They both usually last about a year or so here in AZ and changing the filter yourself is very easy and not that expensive.

The engine air filter has 3 rounded corners and one square corner. It is easy to overlook this and then it appears that the filter doesn't fit. Of course you could do this with the OEM as well, but it is better marked.

I just went to Discount Auto and picked up Purolator cabin filter $13 and Purolator air filter $7. Both fit well

careful with those K&N filters as they damage the air sensor if it has too much oil on them.

The nut on one of my airbox lid retainers (for the "captive" bolt) is missing (2005 RX 330) The dealer put one in but it falls right out if the bolt is unscrewed, and the bolt sure isn't captive either anymore. Anyone know the specs for that nut? Since the nut won't stay in place, does that mean that a piece of plastic is broken on the underside so that it just falls out? I really can't see that well in that area. Thanks

Just replaced my Cabin Air Filter on my 2002 RX300, got the filter from local import auto parts store, $10.94 with tax. Can't believe dealership wanted $100.00 and the local import auto shop wanted $50.00, this for a 1 hour, including drive to pick up the part, fix
