Roxpert, you do not have a sensor on your spare, but the OP does. Lexus try to save a few bucks with the earlier version of the indirect TPMS, it did not work well and they switch it to the direct system.

however, in later models, you get the direct TPMS which is marked by metal tire caps.
My 2007 RX400H does not give a tire pressure reading for any of the tires

The Lexus TPMS doesnt give you direct pressure reading. I believe most high end european cars has that feature and the new Acura has that too.

Here goes , I have two tire gauges the both read 35 psi and 36 psi . I have the 18" Michelin MXV ,sould they be @ 30 .That's what the manual says though they are not tire specific. The tire are cold to the touch.

So does this mean that we can't just fill our tires at any old gas station? Where do we need to go? The dealer?

A good question.

I saw this a while back and it had a place in the lower righthand corner of their page to search for dealer of Nitrogen, http://www.getnitrogen.org/index.php

Costco is the major place I know of both here and in Mexico.

If you have a portable compressor, why not lower the tire gradually and take note of what the car is telling you. If you get to pressures in the teens, take it back to Lexus. I doubt it is going to come on if you are 2 psi low though. It was my understanding that it took a significant pressure loss before it came on.

Works on 05 and above. The 04's do not have the direct feed back. Just memorizing the resistance to roll. But at least there's something to warn you against. Still A+.

The indirect TPMS have not proven to work well consistantly, thats why Lexus went on to the direct system.

I made it a habit to check the air pressure on all my cars, every 2 weeks. They do lose psi, after some time. Correct tire pressure is an important parameter that affects mileage deviation, check it periodically. I have made use of my bicycle pump regularly, good exercise! Remember to get a good air pressure gage. While you check air pressure, check on the general condition of the tire...visually and by touch.

Guys 'n' Gals here are the details for TPM on Lexus models:
The Tire Pressure Warning System (TPWS) monitors the difference in tire pressure in all four or five tires (if the vehicle is equipped with a full-size spare tire) through radio wave signals from a tire pressure valve/sensor mounted in each wheel.

Each wheel (including the spare tire on certain vehicles) has a tire pressure warning valve/sensor integrated into the air valve with a unique ID number that measures the tire pressure and tire temperature and then transmits the information to the antenna/receiver mounted inside the vehicle through a radio wave signal.

All Japan-built vehicles require the tire pressure warning valve/sensors to be activated (“wake up”) during Pre-Delivery Service .

The ECU takes each tire pressure, tire temperature, and unique tire pressure warning valve/sensor ID information from the antenna/receiver and compares it to the specified value, which was registered during PDS. If the information received does NOT match the specified value registered in the ECU, it will transmit a signal to illuminate the Tire Pressure Warning System Indicator Light located on the combination meter. If the ECU is replaced, it is necessary to manually enter the tire pressure valve/sensor ID.

The Tire Pressure Warning System Indicator Light on the combination meter is illuminated or flashes continuously when the ECU senses that the tire pressure, tire temperature, and/or unique ID number does NOT match the value registered in the ECU.

It is available in:
 2004 – 2007 model year GX 470 vehicles.
2006 model year GS 300 vehicles.
 2006 – 2007 model year GS 430, IS 250/350, and LX 470 vehicles.
2007 model year ES 350, GS 350, LS 460, RX 350, and SC 430 vehicles.
2008 model year RX 350 vehicles.

Conditions for the Tire Pressure Warning System Indicator Light:

After turning the key ON, the TPWS Indicator Light illuminates for 3 seconds and then turns OFF --> Normal System Check

TPWS Indicator Light is ON and will NOT turn OFF --> Low tire pressure has been detected
Check that all tire pressures are set to the tire inflation pressure indicated on the vehicle loading
specification label

After turning the key ON, the TPWS Indicator Light flashes for 1 minute and then turns ON
steady or flashes continuously --> System Failure
