Replacing the OEM battery in the RX330
#46
Hope this isn't answered somewhere -- but I searched and searched the forum. . .
My battery died and Sam's Club installed a nice new one (2004 RX330). Seems like the clock and radio are fine (I have GPS), but my windows operate from each door, but not from the driver panel.
I'm assuming I need to reprogram the windows -- but HOW?
I see lots of posts about having to do it, but none on HOW to do it.
Thanks.

The re-learning/programming is needed if the windows do not travel all the way up on a single flick of the switch.
Back to your problem ... the driver has a the master switch to disable the rear switches ... The rear switches should not be able to over-ride. It seems the driver switch may have gone bad [coincidence with battery change].

I was afraid of that and hope it isn't that!
I have a kid and dog so I usually keep the safety button "down" to lock the other three windows, but now even with it "up" the windows won't open from the driver's side.
This along with the two keys that broke in half in the same week make my Lexus oh so much fun right now!
Does anyone else think I have a bad switch or is there something I can try to "reprogram" it?

If the switch is the problem ... the more bad news will be that Lexus sells the whole set and it might run 500+ more like 800. Testing the switch is not difficult and if you dig you can find instructions to pop the panel out.
If you prefer, you can start an other thread (it really does not sound like a battery problem)

What happens if you DON'T reprogram the windows?

They will work, but the "auto up" and "auto down" don't work correctly (because the computer lost track of where they were when the juice was cut off), so you will be reduced to holding the window button in the "down" position for the entire length of time is takes the window to retract into the door.
Most of us can't live like that.
(Remember window cranks - no wonder our arms used to be so strong.)

Thanks for that info.
Don't forget VENT windows. Great cheap "A/C" back when real A/C was a luxury option only.

Yeah but if he was REALLY rich he would have had "underdash" A/C installed too!

The battery was about $75 vs the "auto parts" places wanted about $110 for it. Even then, that is overpriced for such a tiny battery. The one for my BMW which is about double the size was $65.00 @ Walmart. 3 year replacement warranty which is about the same as the other places.

So the battery replacement took care of the problem?

Curious to know if lots more people in the eastern part of the continent change their batteries every 3-4 years as mentioned. Before the 04 RX330, I never replaced the battery on my 98 Sienna. I had the van until trading it for the RX last year. Personally, I don't like batteries, like in RX, that you can't open and refill the distilled water.

I have sort of concluded that this is a good idea. If they last 4 years, it's time.
