Thumbs up Rear wiper blade replacement

Saw several posts about ineffective rear wipers on RX330 and TSB on new one, but I still had the original blade on my 04. Went to my dealer, and for $6 and change got a replacement wiper blade insert, and an offer to replace it which I turned down (I'm a committed do it yourselfer!). Looked at posts and found no directions but comments about the pop off cap.
I did pop off the 2" cap over the center of the wiper where it pivots, and the wiper then pivots 90 degrees and the blade is easily accessible. I then bent the distal end of the blade gently, and it fairly easily pulled out. I took off the thin support blades on either side of the old wiper insert, put them in the same grooves on the replacement wiper insert, and slid it back in the way it came out. Two minutes at the most, not counting looking at this site for suggestions. So far it dramatically improved the cleaning ability but mine was almost 3 years old. Still a trace streak about 2-3" in from the end but I'll wash it, probably put RainX on it and see how that does. If still a problem I'll see if my friendly service writer will help me out with a TSB from this site. Bill

My dealer would charge $90/hr for labor. So 2 minutes = $3. I hope they don't count that Starsbuck coffee time.

I think it is 1/2 hr minimum.

I don't often see that word when used in car parts or repairs. Usually relegated to meidcal journals and such. Just what DO you do?

Don't get me wrong, when you say distal or proximal, the meaning is clear as a bell!

The plastic ends just snap off for easy blade removal, however the new blade will skip the top two inches also.I was able to customise a "mister clean" 15" wiper to fit. a 16" would just fit. the frame is more flexable at the tips. cleans very well annd looks good too.
