Default oil filter

Hi. Can you describe how you replaced the oil filter? Is it accessible from the small access panel from underneath? Thx.

2 choices.
1. Come from the top and reach under the exhaust header(once cold). Cant see it very well, but a small mirror helps to get the filter back on.
2. Come from bottom. You'll have to remove the large black plastic piece, or do what I saw at a Lexus dealership today. The tech had the car raised and pulled the large plastic piece towards the front of the car, bending it alot.
I think I'll stick to the top method.
I've tried both. Top is easiest, with a mirror and generic filter tool.

Well, doing it from the top is easier but could be messy. Some of the oil will get to the bottom plastic cover. But, if you decide to do it from the bottom. You gonna have to remove lots of screws to remove the plastic covers.

Default diy oil change for the first time

I successfully changed the oil on my RX330 (10k) today. It was amazingly easy. I decided to remove the splash guard like in the first picture and the filter was right there in front of me. I'm doing the 'A' service from now on. Thanks.

First, you gotta remove the bottom plastic panel. I removed the front and oil section panel off.
There was no need to remove the front panel off (top of picture)...but I wanted to remove it so I could take pictures and show it to all of you. Bottom picture is the oil section plastic panel. (4 screws to remove).
only need to remove 8 screws 4 on the passenger side
4 to take off the oil \cover

OEM Toyota filter preferred, they do not cost too much if you buy them from one of the vendors here. Buy it from the dealer on site and you get shafted.

Thank you for the pics! More than 3 years later the thread is just as useful.

I found a seller on eBay that sells OEM Toyota filters (p/n 90915-YZZD1) by the case (10 pack) - $40 w/ free shipping. I just bought 1 case, and they have plenty more.

This is their store on eBay:

Hope this helps.

RX350 will use another type of filter than what is in the 330
