Been snooping, lurking here for a long time, dreaming of a new Lexus.

My other half has a GMC 4x4 PU which has been getting us through the winter really well.

After three minivans in a row, truly a soccer mom, I really like the new RX330 but my husband has been reading over my shoulder and always wants to know that the AWD system is really up to the kind of wintertime travel we often do in the GMC. Not off-road mind you. I have read many earlier posts that seems to go both ways regarding the AWD system but I understand the new system is quite different but has anyone analyzed it to the level that I can convince my chief mechanic.

Joy,

I'm sure there are others here that can comment on the 330 AWD system. However, my experience with the 300 AWD system in the "Great White North" where it has been said that we have: eleven months of winter and one month of poor sledin', I would say there is no snow/ice situation I would feel unconfortable in.

I look forward to bad weather days just so I can enjoy driving my RX.

We had huge amounts of snow in RI in the beginning of Dec and I had absolutely no trouble at all with the fully automatic AWD system in the RX 330. I stopped fully on steep snowy hills to see if I could get the vehicle stuck and there was absolutely no problem whatsoever, and that was in basically unplowed 8" fresh snow. I also took it around fast snowy corners a few times to get a feel for the skid (stability?) control and found that it worked great too. This is the first AWD vehicle we've ever had so I don't have much to judge it on, but in my opinion it's fabulous. We had a VW Passat prior to this that was OK in the snow but I think our last big storm would have been a problem for that car. My car, a 2002 Mustang GT 5 speed, was stuck at home in the garage for the entire weekend of the storm until the roads got well plowed. The RX is a great vehicle - good looking, great ride, excellent AWD system, a very nice interior, and a good value when overall ownership costs are considered. I don't think you'll go wrong if you decide to get one.
