Resetting computer after a battery disconnect.
On a Lexus RX330 2004. I have disconnected the battery and the computers need to reset as expected. this takes a little driving time. My question is this: does the timing of the vehicle get messed up as well after the battery disconnect? I have found that the timing seems off and the car runs terribly with knocking and pinging like I have a 75 octane in my car. its so bad that I hate driving it out of fear I'm messing things up in the engine. it eventually corrects back to an even idle and the pinging goes away. is this normal? I'm thinking the timing is way out and needs to reset itself via the computer after a full battery disconnect. any thoughts on this?
Also, if this is normal, is there a way to reset it without driving down the road with the car acting awful?

Things don't get too far out of whack when battery is disconnected. Indeed, only minor re-adjustments are needed, such as transmission shifting relearn for a few miles, which should hardly be noticeable. Nothing to worry about regarding timing issues and any possibly damage during the resetting processes.
