I know certain bulbs in the cluster can be swapped to LED no issue (gear indication, other indicator bulbs like CE and turn signal) but what about the backlight of the speedo? I do know it is a cfl bulb of some unique sort. has anyone tried to replace it with a LED? and if so how did you go about it? would like to have my full interior be LED.

I would be concerned about dimmability of the cluster with the dial. If that works there should not be an issue, although I prefer the amber tinge as the light is dimmed.

PS: I have not cut open the control, but if it is a resistance type the reduced current draw of LEDs may change the geometry.

 

I don't know if it is relatable to your model but we just did LED gauge needle backs and backlighting with a kit from taninauto.com. I work great, perhaps they have parts for your model. You can view my post to see the results.
