Default Lexus RX 300 2003 AWD VS RX 300 2002 FWD

Hello,

I have two Lexus RX300.
One is a 2002 FWD that has 200,000 miles,
the other one is a 2003 AWD with 90,000 miles. Both of them with original engine and transmission.

I feel the 2002 FWD has more acceleration and is more snappy. I feel the AWD takes is time.

Now, I don’t know if is me or is reality. I don’t know if the stability, traction, and smoothness (better than the FWD) of the AWD make me feel that is less powerful. Even uphill feel like less powerful than the FWD.

The AWD has less miles and is very smooth, much much better than the 2002 FWD.
Maybe the better traction and smoothness make me feel less acceleration?

I can’t understand if the AWD has a problem or is me.

P.S I just bought the 2003 AWD. First time I own a AWD.

Any advice or suggestion?

Thank you so much!

AWD car is heavier and has more moving parts (friction). The FWD car should be a little quicker. The FWD car will have more torque steer which will make it feel quicker too.

If you have both, give it time and see which you prefer. I have not changed too many vehicles, but my ears and butt tune in with each vehicle and I get a sense of which vehicle is happy in the area I drive. There vehicles tune themselves based on how the driver drives. So you may like to clear out all learning by resetting the ECU [you will lose your seat/radio/pinch-protection settings]. All around fluid change will make a difference too.

My wife's GS is lt more fun to drive, but most of the time I reach for the RX keys.
