Default Transmission blues - need advice

I had to replace the transmission in my 99 AWD RX so I am familiar with this issue. Now, the transmission in my 02 AWD RX is acting up, at 230K miles. It slips when in reverse backing up an incline of any significant degree. Forward motion is fine. Is this problem possibly serviceable from below through the pan or must the entire transmission be removed and rebuilt? Thanks.

JAB ... Please keep in mind the response here would be from novice to enthusiast level. An answer you can rely on would come from mechanic who knows the RX transmission. I would strongly urge to go to the shop who did the last replacement.

When I lived in Mexico (our highest point in Florida is 345 feet), I had this issue when I went out to the mountains and was parked on inclines when I went to some attraction or restaurant. Keep in mind, despite there being a transmission pump, even at an angle, it can do this with the vehicle tilted. If you do not see it elsewhere, it is likely okay. However, Salim brings up a good point that you want to be sure nothing else is going on and even when I had my RX I double checked. Even though I have a CT200h now, I even have to look stuff up or ask simply because I am not fully used to the vehicle like I was with my RX300.

It is not likely OK. Slip and shudder are pronounced when the problem occurs, sometimes even with a slope as minor as a driveway apron or other curb cut. And, now the VSC light is coming on and staying on.

It might be brakes which are acting up and not letting the power transfer from wheels to ground. Very unlikely, but just a thought. Honestly, just shooting in the dark here. You can disable the ABS and see if things improve. [Note I do not recommend disabling the ABS for more then a short test to verify].
