Question rx300 looks better than rx330

Hey all,

Just wondering about other opinions concerning the rx300 and the rx330.
Even though I just bought a 2003 rx300, I can't help but notice that I actually do not like the body
style changes made to the rx330. I am sure I am going hear it from RX330 owners now, but this
is just my opinion. I fell in love with the rx300 looks and the rx330 just doesn't seem to impress me.
I look at it as if its not broken...don't fix it. Why did they have to ruin such a good thing?????
ok now you 330 owners can come an bash me!!!
Peace!

no bashing but I will politely disagree - I personally didn't like the RX 300 cause it looked too much like a minivan - too many soccer mom's drivin' em. I'm an IS 300 owner and the RX 330 looks like an SUV version of the IS - much more sporty with the clear tail lamps, the 18" rims, the spoiler, the new style antenna, and NO mirror tint - that's one thing I hated about the RX 300s they all seem to have that ugly reflective tint. just my 2cents

Thumbs down

Don't like the the 330... looks like a jacked up version of a station wagon, plus, the new angle of the rear glass cuts down the size of objects you can get in there, even though the overall length of the vehicle has increased.

Now the new GX470 is another story... wife and I went to the Lexus event in CT and she fell in love with the GX... actually, after going over the torture track they had set up, she fell in love with the LX

Both RX300 and RX330 are nice looking. However I would pick the the slightly larger RX330, better performance with its new more powerful 3.3L engine, adapter headlights, 5-speed A/T, optional 18" rim/tires...

Default Why?

Isn't it strange that the people who don't like the RX330 are people who CURRENTLY own an RX300?

I think it's pretty much individual preference. I could live with either one, but I do really love my RX330. The style plus all the other improvements besides performance pkge did it for me.

For those that like the RX300 better, there will be plenty of nice used models to choose from for many years. Styling is purely a personal choice, and my eyes like the updated model much better...I agree with jeffknet that the RX300 looks too much like a minivan, while the RX330 has a sportier, more aggressive look that I like better.

Cool i Could have bought an rx330

First of all..I bought my 2003 RX300 in April...being very much aware of the rx330 being available in a few weeks if not the time i purchased my 03.....
I do not like the 330 style especially the new taillights...just doesn't go well with a lexus I am sorry. Also I don't think that headlights moving as I turn around a bend is going to be much benefit to me except another worthless feature.
Before I get accused AGAIN of not liking the rx330 because I have an RX300 I Just want to be clear on this.
Its an opinion....like I would be jealous of an rx330 give me a break.....Its a dream just to own any Lexus.

Cheers to all us Lexus owners!!

Default Tailights

Mike, just curious as to why you don't like the new taillights - is it the location or the fact that they're the clear lens type? I'm sure the lens could be changed if it was really bothersome. If it's the higher location, then that's a different story.

Actually I do not like the fact that they changed the back end by moving the lights up a bit higher. Also the fact that they are clear/silver looking. Just not my taste I guess.
I wish they would have just kept the rx300's And added the RX330 to the line of vehicles....that way they could have had double the sales coming in for those who like the classic RX and those who like the newer versions. Why not call it the SX330 LOL

let's not forget the horrible reaction the RX300 got when it first came out. sure the 330 is quirky in some ways, but give it a few years, and i'm sure it'll once again prove itself to be the trend setter in its category.

and let's also not forget that a lot of the 330 sales are going to come from 300 owners trading in (myself included), who loved the 300 while they had it. the 300 is STILL a great looking car, no doubt about it. after 5+ yrs, it has really defined what it takes to be a luxury SUV.

Lexus, like all its competitors, are working 24-7 to stay on top, and how else do you do that in the auto industry? you need to constantly innovate and bring new ideas and styling touches to the market and "earn" the spot as the market leader, and eventually pave the way to "status quo" (in terms of expectations and acceptance by the general public). the 300 did that job perfectly, and now it's time for the 330 to do the same . . . and then some.

I come from a totally different side of the camp. I typically don't care for SUVs although I don't mind them. I was never in the market for one and didn't think I'd ever own one although I would gladly have drivin one if it was given to me. Unlike some SUV haters I actually thought some SUVs were actually nice looking. However, I was always a 2 door Coupe and sports car kind of guy. Anyway, last year if I was in the market for an SUV it would have been the MDX because I never liked the look of the RX300. This year, however, with the new 04 RX330, I like the changes they did and thought it looked much better than the older RX300. I bought the 04 RX330 for my wife in late April and love it. The only reason why I don't own an Acura MDX instead is because of the redisign. This is just my opinion and my personal taste.

Not surprising. I used to love the look of the RX300, but now that I have a 330, I don't think it looks so good. Also, have you seen the Kia Sorento? They did a nice job of imitating the RX300.

Either way, both are among the best cars on the planet.

Yea, I remember that when my mom wanted the 1999 Lexus RX300 back in 1998 instead of the Mercedes ML, i was a lilttle unsure about the look of the RX300, but within a week of looking at it, I loved its shape and sportiness, so I was very very glad that my mom got this car. I currently drive an Infiniti QX4, and I loved driving the RX300 more. We gave back the RX300 since the lease was over, and my mom in driving the SC430 convertable and as she saw the new RX330, she said wow its even better!! I also loved it too. See people, whenver a new design comes out, it will take time to get used to and this RX330 will be a trendsetter again and most people will get very used to the shape and grow to love it. So, I would say that we are definitely getting the RX330 for her. Hopefully when I return my QX4, I can get an Infiniti FX35, but we all like the RX330 better, so oh well.
