The check engine light came on, and my local trusty mechanic diagnosed it as faulty Knock Sensor. I continued to drive the car while waiting for my appointment to take it in to the shop. The problem was intermittent, as the check engine light came and went. When it was on, however, I noticed very high revs at highway speeds, as though the transmission wouldn't shift into a higher gear. (4000s vs 2300s, the latter which was normal.) Also heard a noise like a strange hum, whrrr, noise coming from the engine/trans. Both sensors and wiring harness were replaced, and when the mechanic test drove it, the transmission failed, wouldn't shift out of 2nd. Does anybody have any ideas? Was it a failing transmission from the start, is there any connection between the codes for Knock Sensor and Transmission, could something have been triggered during the knock sensor replacement which would've caused trouble with the transmission??? My car waits in the shop while I decide what to do! Thanks in advance to anybody who has any experience or ideas about this topic.

There are lots of threads on knock sensors and one huge one on bypassing a single bad one.

The car will go into limp mode with this code and the transmission will not shift up.

It helps when the subject of a post says what it is about, like "knock sensor problem".
