99 RX300 rear differential help
Hey guys, my 99 RX300 had a bearing fail and I was told that I'm better off buying a used rear diff as the bearing most likely sent shaving inside the diff. I called Lexus to run my vin and was told the car has a limited slip rear diff and that I would need to buy a locking diff. I looked online and could only find non-locking diffs so I called back Lexus and this time the guy I spoke to told me that I have to find a limited slip diff because it's different than a locking and non-locking diff. I ended up calling another Lexus and was told the same "I have a limited slip so I need to buy a locking".
Does anyone know what kind of differential I'm looking for? I'm assuming the differential has to come from a 99-00 only and not an 01-04. Also I've only seen 1 or 2 locking diffs listed but upon calling, they are only empty pumpkins so only non-locking diffs seem to be available.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

You have a pretty unique and enviable set-up.
I would go to a local diff specialist and let them do an analysis on the oil and condition of your diff. Replacing the unit is a possibility but most likely it will not be easy or inexpensive. It might be worth overhauling (if needed) the current diff.

Unique and enviable as in a rare option (lsd)?
Ill have check with a local specialist shop to see what they think. It would've have been nice to find a used diff seeing as most were in the $200-$250 range and came with 6-12 month warranties.
