Default Changed the rear wheel bearing and now ABS light on

Rx300 2000 AWD 198k miles rear left bearing was making noise. An independent shop changed the bearing no noise but the abs light came on . Thought may be shop damaged the sensor so changed the sensor still the abs light is on .any idea what is wrong? Shop is saying mY be RX needed ABS bearing, never heard of bearing with abs. By the way bearing I put is Timken 51400b

Usually the sensor wire gets pinched, so it should be taped out of the way. You have the tone ring, the sensor and the wire. If they installed a new sensor (which comes with the wire) then damaged tone ring is a distinct possibility. Just because the connector is hard to get to, they can install the old sensor and scope the signal as they spin the wheel.

an "abs bearing" is one that has the tone ring built into it. either they didn't install it correctly or they installed it and damaged the black tone ring part of it. you can't see the notches that cause the magnetic fluctuations but their there.

I put the new sensor so that is not the issue.i asked the mechanic if he has damaged the ring tone he said it is on the axil and in order to takeout the bearing he just took out the knuckle and hub. Is he right?

Please check out the thread on 'tone ring'. It has the pictures of the axle and where the shaft seats in the bearing.

Scoping the signal and comparing it with the others is the best way. Else a disassembly is needed to inspect damage on the the ring. Some times the problem can be in the new sensor too.

So what u saying there is no bearing which is called abs bearing . But hub comes with bearing which has tone ring attached to it? Is that correct? But if I remember when he was replacing the bearing in a hub I did not saw any ring tone attached to it, by the way this is AWD with axil in the rear. I bought the wrong hub with bearing and abs before but it turns out to be for front wheel drive

remove the abs sensor from the hub and inspect for wire damage. Clean the tip and bore of the sensor mount in the hub. A metal bottle brush or emory cloth wrapped screwdriver can help. The sensor must sit flush. A little bit of rust can push it far enough away so that it cannot pick up a signal off the tone ring. This is assuming the tone ring is not spinning freely on your axle.

I removed the sensor to clean the tone ring as suggested in tone ring thread.and noticed that abs sensor is not flushed. Is that the reason for ABS light if yes then how to insert all the way in it looks very tight.

If it is sitting crooked, that can be your problem. In fact being crooked makes it hard to seat properly.

There are two parts .. the sensor and the hole. Check for roundness and if the last attempt make it croocked there is bound to be physical aberration and you will have to smoothen what ever is not right. The hole can handle rougher treatment but I would only use hand tools on the sensor ... dont let the heat build up.

Compare it to the other side. It looks like its not seated all the way flush to the housing. A tap with a rubber mallet will persuade it.
