Post Help about my 2001 RX300

This morning on the local road, the car in front of me suddenly stopped, so I hit the brake hard to stop my car. I was very lucky without an accident. However, when I hit gas to drive the car, the car did NOT move, but the engine was running well. Nothing wrong was shown up on the dashboard. When I switched shift to R level, the car was responsive, then I could drive the car. I have this car for years, no problem before. The transmission is kinda sensitive and working well, normally I do drain & fill every 10000 miles.

Does anyone know if it is a big problem?
Many thanks.

When you put your RX in "N" can you push it freely?

Does the engine strain when you put in gear?

Compare engine rpm as you press gas pedal in Park vs any gear.

Thanks. I will check that.

Do you mean "push car by hands" to see if it can move freely?
This morning when I drove the car later, I did pay attention to rpm and sound from engine, but did not see anything odd about rpm.

not RX or Lexus specific, during your panic stop might you have knocked the shifter into Neutral?

This is also what my friend mentioned to me this afternoon. I could not remember if I did or not.
I guess at that time it was in Neutral, so the car was not moving when I hit the gas pedal. I remember the sound from the engine very clearly.

But could the shifter switched to Neutral itself?

There is no lock in D, so you can slip the lever to N without squeezing the release button and/or pressing the break pedal (the two interlocks)

Please ignore my earlier question as they are not applicable as your RX is currently working fine.
