Default Need help turning on Navigation

We just bought a used 2001 Lexus RX300. My wife was trying to dim the screen and turned the screen off. No book was provided with vehicle so we cant figure out how to turn screen back on. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

We have a sticky thread which answers most of the problems.

For manual see post #2

My apologies! She did find a manual for the navigation system, but it does not say how to turn the system back on. However, since then, we have noticed that the screen is actually very dim and going in and out. It was working perfectly before turning the screen off. Thanks!

Since I dont have a nav system, lets wait for someone to respond.

If you could add a few more details it might help.

The screen has other information that is displayed ,, like A/C, stereo etc ,, does that show up right?

With headlights on or off does it make a difference in display?

Have you tried adjusting illumination ****?

Does the cigarette lighter work? Have you checked fuses?

No, nothing shows. Headlights and such make no difference; however, if we use the dimmer, we can see a faint display. Once we could see it, we adjusted the controls back to the highest for brightness and contrast, but it did not brighten it. We have checked the fuses, and the cigarette lighter works fine. Not sure what else to say. It is a mystery. Everything worked perfectly until she turned the screen off for driving at night. The voice navigation still works, just can't see anything. Thanks for all your help!

First you push the button that says "Map" then push the "Display" button, then turn up the brightness and/or contrast on the Nav screen. There is also a "Display Off" button on the screen choices - but it sounds like you wife may have turned down the brightness.

EDIT: Oh, I see you already tried the Brightness setting. There is also a button for "Day or Nighttime viewing on the same screen. Have you checked that?

I'd try unplugging the battery for 15-20 minutes and then plugging it back in.

This should clear all of the settings. If the screen still doesn't work, the backlighting may have bit the dust.
