tranny problems 01 rx300
Hi All,
Im new to the forum and Im seeking some advice. I own an 01 rx300 with 164K. Bought it as a cpo with 50k on it. Recently, had some major problems which started with replacing the knock sensors. Once replaced, it drove like a charm for 1 day. Then the tranny started to act up lurching into first and second and reverse. Took it to a tranny shop they're going to charge about $600 to diagnose the problem. Does anyone have an opinion on whether the knock sensor replacement could have affected the tranny in any way or is it just a coincedence. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks 164krx300

Welcome to the Club from a fellow Floridian.
I am curious if you got any check engine light when the tranny started lurching, and additionally if any tranny work was done since you bought it at 50K (how often have your tranny fluid changes been)?

i had check engine light on but that was prior to changing the knock sensors. As far as changing the tranny fluid, i dont think i changed it as often as i should have. I am still waiting for a diagnosis from the tranny shop. They told me it took about 5 hr just to drop the tranny. does that seem correct. thanks for your response.
Oh man, wish you had contacted us first....The knock sensors can cause the tranny not to go into overdrive. However when they replaced them maybe they disturbed the wiring going to the speed sensors on the transmission. Why are they dropping the tranny....that would be a lot more than $600 to do that...Or are they just taking the pan off? If so you just got ripped for $600....I am not sure I would trust them.....
tranny work was being done at a friend of a friend, its a highly reputable shop. Actually took about 10 hrs to drop the tranny. Metal shavings in the pan also need a new torque converter. Has anyone priced either a rebuilt or new tranny from lexus. Thanks for any feedback.
