What does the "RX" stand for?

Lexus Champion
I picked this up from the Lexus Owners Web Site FAQ:
Reference #010124-000039
"Question
What do the U.S. model names stand for?
Answer
ES Executive Sedan
LS Luxury Sedan
GS Grand Sedan
SC Sports Coupe
RX and LX do not stand for anything, but are intended to convey the idea of luxury."

Oh riiight, Grand.
No, I'm just disappointed with some things.
Styling is just a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado,
The rear door thing is annoying.
It's just that it could be so much better.

Well the styling of all the Lexus cars are just a JDM something lol.
The rear door thing is annoying I agree, but overall I like the vehicle. I'd buy one if I needed another SUV.

I concur that that RX doesn't really stand for anything - I really have no choice since Lexus NA is telling us "RX and LX do not stand for anything..."
A lot of no-name SUV's use X in the name: Xterra, X5, MDX, X90, QX4. It's more of an image for marketing. Take the brand name "Lexus", for instance, doesn't really have a meaning, but instead is a marketing study of what sounds luxurious - a combination of the words Luxury and Elegance. It works.

I was always told the the RX and LX were unofficially "Refined 4x4 and Luxury 4x4. Others have said the X stand for "expedition" or "cross" (as in cross-terrain)

I thought Lexus did stand for something
I read somewhere that the term Lexus was created as a convergence of the words Luxury and Excellence.
Can anybody back me up on this?
