Default Transmission Fluid level question....again

Recently did a drain and filled and Im convinced I overfilled the tranny....

Just did "another" drain and fill without transfer case and have added just 3 quarts so far....

What level on the dipstick do you guys shoot for???
There is a fair distance between the cold and hot marks on the stick...Also the marking for each area (hot or cold) is very tight...

How long should I drive it or leave it on to condider it warm???

Also on the stick everytime I check there is fluid all over the stick...It is hard to tell exactly where the level is...
Thanks in advance

It's warm enough when your temp gauge on the dash is straight up. Run it through the gears - down, then back up to Park. Pull the stick and check it. Sometimes I can simply flip the stick over to get a better read on it. Add a few ounces until you can get it between the holes or dots. On the lower edge of the holes is better since your vehicle hasn't been under a real load just idling. Hope this helps.

I usually drive around for about 10 minutes before checking. Honestly if you do the tranny and differential (it's not the transfer case) it will take 4 quarts and a splash from a 5th. Just put 4 1/8-4 1/4 quarts in it and you will be dead on.

For a drain/fill, if you have AWD, then 4.2 quarts . If you have FWD, then only 3.5 quarts. Do not drive if it is overfilled, this causes air to get mixed in with the fluid. Drive for about 20 minutes, then check it while the engine is running to get the most accurate readng

Your numbers are pretty close...I had done my original drain and fill with the differential and had used 5 qts....this was too much....I then did a simple drain and fill and ended up adding about 3.5QT....so I am guessing about 4.5QT for me...it is AWD...the level with the engine warm is not right between the "hot" marks...

I have always replaced 4+ qts(AWD) when just draining the tranny pan only. I have never drained the front differential!

I will try(in a couple of weeks) by first draining the pan and then the front differential to see is any extra ATF comes out of the diff.

I have already bought new gaskets for the drain bolts and have recently gone through the TC and rear Diff and replaced the fluid(M-1)
