Well, I passed on this car. It was out of town so I traveled there to get a look and give it a test drive. The test drive did not go well. After just a few miles the check engine light came on and the transmission wouldn't upshift. Back to the dealer. There was a knock sensor code. They reset it and it went away. Not encouraging. I then did a walk around and found a significant patch of bubbling corrosion in the left rear wheel well lip. After considering $1K for the knock sensors and $1K for the rust repair I decided to pass. They did offer $500 in consideration but this car is for my daughter that's away at school and the logistics of getting the repairs done would be difficult at best. After some lengthy and hard negotiating I ended buying an '04 RX. Yes, more expensive but it was more in line with what I was looking for. So I guess I'm off to the 2nd gen forum!

The code was probably from a knock sensor ( because overdrive didn't work).

The second gen RX is very nice as well, congratulations on the purchase!
