Default P0134- Oxygen Sensor Help!!

Hi everyone, I just got a code P0134 (no circuit activity from Bank 1 sensor 1 o2 sensor)

I understand this is the manifold o2 sensor nearest the firewall. Is it a pain to get to? Do I need to remove a lot of components to access?

Any reccomendations on what sensor to replace it with? Advance auto parts sells several.

If you dont have a lift or not mechanically inclined, I dont recommend you doing it. Also, make sure you buy an Air Fuel ratio sensor not an oxygen sensor or else you will fry the PCM. GL

I plan to replace that sensor myself in a day or two. If you do a search of this forum you will find several detailed descriptions, with photos, of how to do it. It doesn't look too difficult.

I followed numerous recommendations here on the forum and ordered the Denso-sensor from amazon.com. The cost was about $102 with shipping. I also order the sensor socket, thread chaser (just in case), and a can PB (nut and bolt buster). For B1S1, the Denso part is 234-9009. I got the Lisle 12100 Oxygen Sensor Socket, Lisle 20200 Spark Plug Hole Thread Chaser (14 mm and 18mm threads), and a can of PB, also from amazon.com. The socket fits the new sensor perfectly. I won't be able to try the thread chaser until I have opened things up. The denso sensor comes with a small tube of thread anti-seize.

P.S., I understand that the front sensors are technically Air-Flow (A/F) sensors and not oxygen sensors.

After some research and looking under the car, it appears to be quite easy to access, just to the right of the driveshaft and above the exhaust. Plenty of room for a long ratchet and o2 sensor socket.

I measured the resistance of both upstream o2 sensors, surprisingly they are both read around 1.4 ohms. I was expecting the bank 1 to be no resistance. I cleared the code and drove the car around, the code has not come back yet.

Should I wait until the code returns before ordering the sensor? Could it have been a fluke, or is it just gradually going out? The CEL came on initially after several miles of driving.

I think you are measuring the heater resistance of the sensors. I get code P0135 (heater resistance). You wrote you got code P0134, which I guess is not the heater resistance, but some other problem with the sensor.

I suspect the CEL indication will return but maybe not. Since Spring is coming, and not Winter, I guess you could wait and see if it returns.

Bob is correct. The heater and the A/F Ratio sensor systems are 2 different things, hense 2 different codes. What 2 wires did you test resistance on to get those readings? Heater wires are both black and shouldn't make any difference which way (direction) they are tested, but your code indicates A/F ratio sensor, NOT heater. I also wouldn't suggest using ANYTHING but Denso A/F ratio sensor. They work, others, sometimes it's a roll of the dice. Bob called it like it is!
