Question Nav DVD for 2003

I have had several conflicting reports from parts folks on the 2003 Nav DVD update for the RX300.

Does anyone know:

is the 2003 Nav DVD update available?

can you install an update yourself?

could you do the install without a shop manual?

where is the DVD player located and is it hard to get to? the owner's manual for Nav shows it on the right side of the cargo area, facing from the back.

is the $150/volume 2-vol. set of shop manuals worth owning?

does the DVD update come with installation instructions?

is the 2 hour install estimate for dealer service accurate / for dealer, / for owner?

can platinum service agreement cover installation?

how much should the DVD without install cost?

after purchasing a 2002 model in August 2002, which comes with the 2001 DVD release, should the dealer offer a discount on the first upgrade? (even thouugh opinions are like ..., what are others finding?)

Thanks for thinking about this . . .

Yes the new Fall update is available (00230-DVD02-CY), with MSRP of $250. It is very easy to install maybe 10 minutes or so. The Nav unit is located in the rear cargo area, next to the spare tire on the passenger side. You will need to remove your spare so that you are able to eject the old disc. You can order the update from your local dealer, just give them the following part number.

What kind of instructions are you looking for - installation instructions? Just hit the eject and place the new disc in the unit. Your display will prompt you on the update; (make sure key is in the accessory position).

As far as the 2-hour install time being accurate for the dealer or owner, well that depends. You will need to discuss this matter with you service manager.

The update is not worth upgrading unless you live in the areas in which there has been an update since the last release (Fall 2001). There is a listing of the updated areas on this site and you can find it here: http://www.lexus-parts.com/partdetai...CategoryID=74.
