Greetings,

I have a 99' RX300 (4x4 w/ limited slip differential option) w/ 39,500 miles currently registered on the odometer.

I have a couple of DIY questions. 1) any pictures/written directions of how to change the differential oil ? The manual says I need 1 qt. of 80-90W GL-5 oil. Is that all I need ? 2) Where is the transfer case located and is it easy to get to the drain and re-fill plugs ? Any precautions that I should take while I am doing the above ?

Your help will be greatly appreciated !!

Not sure about the exact amount,we fill diffs using a large barrel with a pump. Just pump until it pours out,let it continute to drip until it's just some dribbles,plug up,then clean any spillover.

Follow where the front axles connect to,that's where the t'case and front diff is. Now if you look underneath,on the passenger side of the housing,there is a large drain bolt. Use a 24mm or 15/16 wrench to remove. Make sure you remove the fill plug FIRST,if you remove the drain and can't remove the fill you're screwed. You need around a 10" extension,a 22mm or 15/16" socket,and a ratchet (1/2" drive preferred). Under the passenger-side,near the driveshaft,put your hand above the rearmost framerail of the front subframe. You should feel the plug,reach over with your extension/socket and break it loose. Remove the drain plug next and watch the old stinky gear lube drain. Get new washers for the diff plugs,they're gold colored brass or copper ones. Clean the plugs before reinstalling,the fill one is magnetic and expect to see fine black metal shavings stuck on it.

It's a little hard to explain the locations without photos,and I don't have any.
