Default Strange Odor After AC on????

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone has the same problem. After a long drive on a hot day, I turned of my Air Condition and let the free air flow through the vents. I smell a strange odor after the A/C is turned off. I was thinking about bringing it to Lexus to have them check it out, perhaps having them change the A/C air filter or something. Do you think I should do that?

Harrier,

Use the Club Lexus search feature. Just type the word 'odor'.
Plenty of info there as well as info regarding AC filters.

Check it out. You'll be glad you did.

Default Odors

go to:

http://www.airsept.com/eed.html

and read.

There is a second aftermarket product called Bio-zone, a 12V UV light source product that can also help but my search didn't find it.

Thanks,
I'm gonna check out the site and probably drop by the dealership because I have a day off the next day. Hopefully it might be under warranty and it'll be free. =) The dealer will tell me how much before they put it in right, because I usually drop it off and come back later. I don't want to be shocked and say I'm not paying for that and leave. =) Anyways, thanks, and happy fourth of July.

Default Dealer? Warranty?

Your Lexus dealer will most likely deny any responsibility for the horrid mold and mildew, gym-sock, smell you are experiencing.

Some Lexus dealers will try to solve the problem by spraying lysol or some other chemical into the air intake but that will be a temporary solution at best. In the 91 and 92 timeframe Lexus changed out a HUGE number of A/C evaporators for dissatisfied LS customers, but in the end to no avail. Since that time as far as I have been able to learn they are just ignoring the problem in hopes it will evaporate into thin air.

It might help if you print the EED article and take it to show them. The only dealers I know of so far that are assuming responsibility for this problem is GM and Ford. If you have no luck with Lexus, as is likely, a Ford dealer will probably install the eed for a fee.

These air conditioning threads are so enlightening!

There's nothing like the insolent heedlessness of restraint,
prudence, or convention...or even the mindless repetition of
phrases, so reminiscent of the trained parakeet I had as a
child.

Ahh, the foolishly ignorant audacity of assumption .
It tugs at the heartstrings to witness someone attempting to
prove the old adage:

One man's strange is another man's horrid mold and mildew, gym-sock.

Nick,

I believe I have sunk to a new all-time low...NOT!

Check it out now:
- insolent heedlessness
- mindless repetition
- trained parakeet
- ignorant audacity
- gym-sock

Now that is some classic prose.

Sheesh, am I in a mood.

Moth to a flame...

Screen door or not, you do realize you got to the "flame" first?

Why, wwest...I'm surprised!

You almost show a grasp of the obvious.

Lightbulb Explanation by example

I'll try and explain my last comments by using, as an example, one of your posts in this thread.

In this thread, HarrierRX300 mentions (twice) a "strange odor".
Your response is to misinterpret, exaggerate and change it to
a "horrid mold and mildew, gym-sock, smell ".

strange odor=horrid mold and mildew, gym-sock, smell?

Harrier discusses bringing his RX to Lexus to have them check it
out, perhaps having them change the A/C air filter or something.

He then asks a simple question, "Do you think I should do that?"

Your response is to repeatedly flame Lexus dealers.
Examples:
-"Your Lexus dealer will most likely deny any responsibility
-Some Lexus dealers will try to solve the problem
-they are just ignoring the problem
-The only dealers I know of so far that are assuming responsibility for this problem is GM and Ford
-If you have no luck with Lexus, as is likely"

So when I say, "You almost show a grasp of the obvious", it's because your statement was almost based in reality.

The reality (and what you constantly ignore or forget) is your posts have been, and continue to be, a regular flame fest against Lexus and whatever flaws you perceive in Lexus automobiles. You have displayed this bizarre negativity long before I purchased my Lexus and first posted here (in April). So when it comes to getting to the "flame" first, you beat me by months and degrees.

In this thread, I didn't get "to the "flame" first", as you claim...I got to flame you first.
A subtle, but obvious difference that anyone, except you, can grasp with a couple months experience reading your posts. There. I feel better.

"I'm gonna check out the site"

Granted, harrier might mean "check out the CL site" as you suggested.

But.

"The dealer will tell me how much before they put it in right,"

If harrier wasn't responding to my post, then put WHAT in, may I ask?

Correctly or not, I assumed harrier was refering to the Airsept EED.

"horrid mold and mildew, dirty gym-socks odor"

Excluding mine, there are lots and lots of posts on a myriad of forums (this problem is in no way unique to Lexus) describing the A/C evaporator microbial growth odor in this and many other ways, some worse.

But why don't we ask harrier to step in here and describe the odor?

Hey guys,
My "strange odor" question is just a concern that I have. May I ask for forgiveness when I said "put (what in)" refers to the dealership putting items such as air filter, etc. into my car without my acknowledgement. I, in no way meant this question to cause anger or violence. After reading the comments, I was kind of scared to write another response. BE HAPPY AND ENJOY LIFE. =) Friends everybody? =)

Harrier,

You are blameless. Life is great. We own a Lexus.

Your concerns are valid and hopefully your dealer
will address them.

We are all just victims in wwest's obsession with Lexus' flaws
and his compulsion to projectile vomit up his opinions and
semi-facts for no apparent reason, at any given moment.

It just was my turn (after many others) to tell him off.

Good luck at the dealer and don't take any crap.
You have a warranty. Stay on'em until you're satisfied!

However...wwest, you remain outside the bounds of reality, taste and propriety.

I'll say it again. The reality (and what you constantly ignore or forget) is your posts have been, and continue to be, a regular flame fest against Lexus and whatever flaws you perceive in Lexus automobiles. You have displayed this bizarre negativity long before I purchased my Lexus and first posted here (in April).

You are regularly offensive to many; your usage of English language, grammar and spelling is coarse and surprisingly rude (Sounds like Lexus of Bellevue found another SUCKER?), and ultimately, to quote you from Edmunds, denigrating.

Oh, yes...I read Edmunds and other forums (mbnz.org? puhleeze). I choose not to post there as they, too, appear to have you pegged.

Your repeated opinions du jour in all these forums are trite and boring from overuse. What may have seemed clever to you at first, has publicly deteriorated into little more than warmed-over ****. You're an object of scorn and ridicule.

You're a loser. You portray yourself as the self-appointed savior of all those that want to buy a Lexus and then try and rationalize your rhetoric by espousing the belief that your actions will make Lexus change their ways. But, you're a loser. Not an underdog, a loser. Lexus has scraped you off their shoes.

Remember 1993? Lexus 1, ***** 0. You're batting .000 in the real world. Bashing Lexus in discussion groups on the Internet may salve your wounded pride, but that pastime will never change court records.

You demean yourself with your constant willingness to try and get in a flame or a dig against Lexus. You anger plenty of Lexus owners in the process. You apologize for this, but continue this behavior, displaying little respect for yourself and none for others. Consequently, you earn no respect from me.

Now that is some classic prose.
