I posted awhile back about an engine knock problem with my 5 week old CPO '99 with 34K miles. After 6 visits to the local dealer, I finnaly got past the exquses and found a tech who took the issue seriously.
Upon further investigation, they are now saying that it looks like the engine was run withouth coolant at some point and has damaged the cylinders, causing the piston slap. The remedy is at least a new engine block. They will take the heads to a local shop and see if there is any damage.
The question to the Lexus gurus on this board, what is involved with the CPO process and shouldn't they have caught this problem which existed prior to me owning the vehicle?
Should I be excited about getting a new engine block, or should I push for a different remedy?
I just purchased an ES 300 and would also like to know this answer. Is the (CPO) a new dealer diversionary tactic, or is it the real deal? Sounds to me like they would have caught that, being so obvious.
