Default Hello all.

I am in Long Island, NY.

I am a BMW owner but married a Lexus lover. She recently had to part with her beloved '97 ES300 and is currently looking for a replacement. I tried winning her over to BMWs but she has been spoiled rotten by Lexus.

Well after much searching, my wife has decided to get an RX. She has narrowed it down to the RX300 or the RX330.

Since I know nothing about Lexus cars, I joined this forum to pick your brains.

Can the engines in these cars be swapped with other models with the same engine? Or is the RX AWD engines unique to this chassis?

thanks for your time.

In other countries, the RX series is known as the Toyota Harrier and can have a 2.4 that's akin to that used in a 4 cylinder like the RAV4.

As far as using other motors from other vehicles, I haven't seen that done anywhere. I toyed with putting a V8 in it several years ago, but the engine configuration would have been different to say toss a V8 from a 4Runner/GX470 into that of an RX300.

Same here.
She loves her RX and at 158K she has made rumblings about a new one.
I however, want a new Z4.

We are about to bump heads.

I don't know if the hassles of trying to switch engines would be worth it. My wife is a Lexus lover even more than I am, and my daughter drives a well-used '99 RX300. I would go for the more-current-looking RX330 or 350 if it's in your price range. Gas mileage isn't so great in the RX300. Visibility is better in the 300, though! Welcome!

I would say just get the 2nd gen. RX330 or RX350, she'll probably enjoy it more than the RX300. I have the RX300 and nothing in the RX330 would sway me to get it, but if I were to start from scratch, of course I'd take the newer model.

So, I guess your wife must be the smart one....
