I have a 2000 RX 3000 4WD with 145K. Recently had timing belt replaced by local reputible garage and shortly thereafter noticed a skip or stutter when starting from dead stop under moderate to hard acceleration. Only happens when car is all warmed up and from 0 to about 10 mph. All other shifting fine. Brought back to garage. They said it is not engine but transmission....stutter probably with torque converter. Could be a software fix or more serious. They said independents don't have saftware for Lexus trannys and I have to go to dealer for further diagnosis. I am about 50 miles away from one. Any suggestions...Fluid looks ok. I am pretty handy.

How long is the interval on the skip or stutter?

I'd also find/get and OBD2 scanner and see if there are any pending codes in the system (the check engine light doesn't need to be on) as they may hint on an issue.

 

just a wild thought ... sure it is not abs kicking in due to poor traction ... road-surface/tires etc.
