Default Rear bumper protector?

Hi,

Does anyone know where to get an aftermarket rear bumper protector for my RX? I have 99 and could use it since i tend to sit on it and am destined to put some scrathes into it.

I went to the dealer today and it was $118 for a piece of plastic! I'd gladly live without the "Lexus" logo on it if it saved my $80. That thing likely costs less than $1 to make, so they must be making sick margings off of it.

Thanks,

Mike

You can buy the rear bumper guard for $68.95 at irontoad.com. It's definitely cheaper than the dealer.

Thanks for the tips. I'm on it!

I'll have to check out both the Lexus one and the Sienna. Ideally, the Sienna one would look like the Highlander version and not have "TOYOTA" written on it. I like the plain one with just the skid lines.

Thanks

Hi,

I went to the Toyota dealership today and looked at the Sienna's bumper protector. It looks like the same shape as the RX version, but I noticed that it doesn't wrap around the edge like the RX version. Rather, it lays flat on the top part.

Do you think having it extend over the edge makes a big difference?

Always ask the experts before taking the plunge!

Thanks

Shonuff,

I didn't ask about the price yesterday, but I can give you some reference from my research. Toyotapartsmall (which is likely across the street from lexuspartsmall in Brookfield, WN), says that it's retail is $39 and they sell it for $31.20. Since you likely have to pay less than $10 for shipping (they charged me $10 to ship the spoiler, which is heavier) and don' t have to pay sales tax unless you live in that state, it's likely a few buck cheaper to buy it online. It just means that you'll have to wait 4-7 days to receive it.

My guess is that they'll quote me between $39 and $55 for the part. The $55 I pulled out my my behind, but since Lexus dealerships around here tend to embellish the asking price for accessories, I figure Toyota being the same company will too.

So I take it that you aren't worried about the edge flap? When I think about it, if you are careful and stick the Sienna one right on the edge of the bumper, you can likely achieve similart protection without exposing much surface area.

Thanks

-Mike
