Default in 110+ degree weather, should I use a heavier oil than the usual Mobil 1 10W-30?

My RX will spend the next month and half in 110+ degree
weather.(visiting family in suburb of Arizona)

Since day 1, my RX has had nothing but Mobil 1 10W-30
in the engine.(Mid-Atlantic area)

When I'm down in Arizona in such hot temps, should I use
a heavier oil? For example, Mobil 1 0w-40?(which is what
I use in my MB)

Thansk for any advice!

Cant go wrong with 10w40, but the real authority is your owner's manual.

You car engine operates at well over 110+ F. 10w-30 will be fine.

One thing to consider if you want to change oil weight .... try to keep the same brand and type.

I dont mean to say that once you use one brand and type you are stuck for ever. Just switching them frequently after being on one for a long time, introduces different detergents and additives which can interact and also can shock an established system.

To repeat ... I doubt if any thing real bad will happen but consistency is better, specially if you have been happy with a particular brand and type.

Finally, there is no scientific data behind my claim.

The weight of oil to use is based on use and ambient temperature. Before multigrade oil like 0-40 the oil had to be changed based on seasons. 30 wieght should cover up to 110 [but the authority is the published value in the user manual]

10W30 should also be fine for such weather, though I am not as much a fan of Mobil 1 as I used to be several years ago.
