Keep us up to date as to how the paint wear goes. I painted the resonator (actually a muffler) underneath when I did some exhaust work last year and about every 6 months or so I get some wear and have had to paint it again. I might just do as you suggested and use the process you mentioned depending on how it works out for you long-term.

Alaskaty, did you do this with the axle-back portion of the exhaust removed or did you paint it on the car?

I sanded and sprayed with it attached to the car. I was just conscientious of where the spray fumes were going. Depending on what part I was spraying I'd hold up some newspaper opposite the muffler...but I wasn't concerned at all about getting over spray on anything on the underside.
