Default #5 Cyl Misfire!!!!!

What can I do?

The car was driving perfect all along and all of the sudden while at a traffic stop the misfire and rough idle started.

I continued to drive to the nearest AutoZone and the reader said #5 Cyl Misfire.

What can I do?

Thanks guys.

I think it was LexMex who has suggested in the past that owner's switch the coil (above the spark plug), in your case for cylinder #5, to another spark plug and see if the error code moves to the new spark plug location. This would isolate the problem to the coil for #5 cylinder or something else.

I will try changing the location of the coils.

One thing though: The #5 is towards the back right?

I am not familiar with this engine at all. I am getting deployed very soon and would like to fix this soon. Thanks guys your input is very much appreciated.

Yes #5 coil is in the back bank closest to the throttle body.
10mm bolt holds the coil down.
Wait till the motor is cooled down before you work on it.

Also don't rule out a bad spark plug. So take the #5 plug out too and inspect it or swap it to a different cylinder.

Great info guys

I guess I have to take apart the top cover and the air sensor stuff on the tranny side as well right?

If not let me know I will be checking the thread for other suggestions.

Thanks a lot

This forum is great.

To get at the 5 coil, you might be able to get by without removing anything, just get a 10 mm wrench and go at this point here.

However, I'd pay attention to my posts here, starting at post 14 of this thread, https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=264967 to see how best to get at that #5 coil. Doing that will just disable a bit the cruise control, but you will still be able to switch it with say the far left, rear coil, #1 coil, shown here, https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...7&postcount=24 to run a test as bob2200 suggested.

Extra coil is a good idea. I keep two, one for the RX300 and another one that was a converted one from a Camry that I had to modify to work in the RX, because I couldn't get one readily down there.

Not sure that you'd need an extra A/F sensor, as the vehicle can run even if they are damaged, vehicle goes to set parameter, but will run more gas.

I actually keep my old MAF sensor for the air intake, worked after some cleaning, but I don't anticipate an issue with that either.

Lexmex:

Your instructions on the other post are invaluable. I thank you very much for directing me there.

The task can be done without taking the CC bracket off but I followed your recommendation as it seemed logical at the time.

It is a big pain to get that #5 coil poack out but once you do it once it becomes second nature I guess.

Thanks a lot:

Now to the next issue::::

I got them exchanged and the problem shifted to the #6 Cyl

I got a new coil pack and the new one and the old one are exactly the same excetp the thickness

The new one does not fit in the sleeve.

I am thinking a manufaturer defect, but I am open to your comments on that.

At least the problem seems to be isolated now to the coil but am not sure now if the new coil pack will fit or if I have to shave it myself.

What say you?

Where did you get the replacement coil pack? If from a Lexus dealer, I'd let them know it isn't the correct size.

I have read about this problem in the past. The original part # for the RX coil (90919-02234) has been superseded by 90080-19016. It seems the new part # has more pronounced rings that need to be sanded a little to make it fit. Here is one discussion on it:
http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums...il%20pack&st=0

Google either part# to find more discussion.
