Default 1999 Rx300..help..help..

Ok. Heres the problem. I have a 1999 RX300. I now hear a loud clicking sound coming from the inside fuse panel under the steering wheel. When I open the compartment there is a set of 3 relays that are right next to the fuses. The middle one is missing and the one of the other two relays is clicking. When I step outside the vehicle you can also hear a clicking noise coming from underneath the vehicle by the fuel tank. At times the clicking stops from inside the car and then so does the clicking from underneath the vehicle. So while driving and the relays start clicking the car starts to sputter like its not getting gas and then will act like its about to shut down. When the relays click the check engine comes on and when they stop clicking the check engine light goes off. Does anyone know what relays these are? Are all three relays suppose to be in? What are these relays or is there another relay back by the gas tank? Please help before I spend alot of money.

I would check to see if the battery is healthy. When mine died I had relays going nuts all over the place even with the car turned off and no key in it.

Carguy thanks for the info. I think the person I bought from did mention that the bad was drained and they charged it. Do you know if all three relays should be in ir what they are?

Not sure, I can look at mine and see what's there. Do you have a pic of what you are looking at?

Welcome to the Club.

I think I have an idea of what you are referring to on the relays, but since you mentioned you are getting a CEL, I would have it checked out at an AutoZone or someone who has an obd2 scanner. It doesn't matter if the light is on or not as those codes should still be in the computer.

. . . and while you're there, have them load test that battery too - it's free! You are not obligated to buy a replacement battery from them - you can find a suitable one at one of your local discount stores.

CarGuy, Lexmex and Lil4X,

Thank You for the welcome and thanks for your help. I went this morning and had the battery replaced along with the battery terminals and WHAT a difference. NO CEL, NO sputtering. It starts and drives like a different car. Once again thanks to everyone and I'll let you know if anything else comes up.
