harman kardon drive + play 2
this is the release month for the harman kardon drive + play 2 to be released. i don't understand how it works, and i've thoroughly read the site and now im confused even more. it seems that this device is wireless, correct? does it not have a wired option? how does the wireless work? you plug in the thing to the cigarette outlet, then plug your iPod into it (iPod's serial cable to a USB) and then it broadcasts a signal? can't you do it wired? i hear wireless FM transmitters suck and wired is much better. what's your opinion on this product?
you can also plug a USB flash drive directly into...that's sweet! (also other mp3 players and such)
i looked on club lexus forums for this already and it didn't really help me

i was going to get the drive+play a while ago, but the only way to hook it up was through that FM transmitter. Those are sh*it haha. if you're going to hook up your ipod, get something that hooks up into the sound system directly.
Alright, I'm pretty sure the ONLY solution you're going to find to hardwire an iPod into the RX is a JL Clean Sweep, which is what I did. I was in your shoes for a few months when I first got my RX, and knew that I wanted to have my iPod hardwired, FM transmitters just suck. Unfortunately, the only way you can use a Clean Sweep is by adding amps, and by adding amps you have to add new door speakers. That's what the people at my audio shop told me.
You can look around all you want, but I'm 99.9% sure that's the only solution you are going to find to hardwire an iPod into your RX.
My system:
-Clean Sweep
-Boston Acoustics Pros in front
-Boston Acoustics SX in back
-JL Audio (2) 12w3v2
-JL Audio 300/4
-JL Audio 500/1
-Two layers of dynamat on the front doors
It sounds crystal clear, but after hearing it, I would've went with the JL's in the doors instead of the Bostons.

yeah i forgot about that...this month im getting the JL cleansweep! so that's perfect! im replacing the 2 front door speakers with boston accoustics pro60's, which also come with 2 tweeters. guess ill leave the back for now. however im having a TON of trouble finding amps. the cheapest, and i mean the cheapest, amp at my audio place is $715! that's too much for door speakers! to some that might now seem a lot but i cant justify forking over that much for simple door speakers (subs are a little bit different of a story). what should i do? i really wanted to try and spend less that $300 on an amp for my new speakers, and here's why
this is all happening at the same time
-door speakers/tweeters replaced with boston accoustics pro60's ($500-$600)
-JL cleansweep ($350)
-new 15" kicker s15l7 ($399)
-custom enclosure (about $200)
-dynamat ($50 per door, two doors=$100)
-amp (for speakers) - haven't found one
-amp (for speakers) - might get this one for the kicker, not sure if it'll maximize it's power and efficieny
here's the install prices
speakers/tweeters-$100
JL cleansweep-$70
sub-$160
dynamat-$50 per door
im having this all done at the same time, which is why im trying to save some money!
can anyone help!?

how would this amp work for boston accoustic pro60's?
or is this one better?
actually i had a new idea. what about 2 separate amps? one 2-channel amp for the left door speakers + tweeter, and one 2-channel amp for the right door speakers + tweeter. would this work? from my knowledge, which is definitily limited, it seems 2 of these would be good right?
also, when i get the JL cleansweep installed and i have my iPod connected to it, how do I play the iPod? 99 rx's don't have auxiliary buttons, so would it be cd or something? what do you push?
