What was the platform for the Lexus RX300 in 1999? Thanks.

My recollection is that there are similarities to the Toyota Camry and of course the ES300, but it is not an exact fit to these or another sedan. I seem to recall that the RX300 is 10 inches shorter than the ES and Camry.

So am I correct in assuming that the RX300 wouldn't fall in either of those two vehicles' platforms?

I think RX 300 has the same platform as of Toyota Highlander and the ES300 same a Camry.

It was largely based off the Camry Platform. I am thankful for this as sometimes I used parts from the Camry when I have to as a temporary repair measure.

I'd say the RX330 might have the same platform as the Toyota Highlander. Both are longer than the RX300.

I have struggled with the same question ....

I have come to the conclusion that the question is formed incorrectly.

Platforms would have made more sense when we talk about frame on which every thing is put togehter. Wheels, suspension and engine all stay the same and at the same location. So one can potentailly change the shell and seats and dash and you have a new vehicle.

With unibody construction every body style is different so the only options you have are to re-use parts from previously in production vehicles. Some assemblies can be re-used but that puts some restrictions on the new unibody styling.

If you use the term "platform" a little more loosely, then it can be applied to which production line was switched over to make the vehicle in question. This again is based on lines which have been engineered to handle common parts.
