Talking DIY spoiler info

Thinking of getting a spoiler for my 1999 RX300 but had questions as which one is going to look good like the newer RX with spoilers? How would i install one if i ordered one from Ebay? Thanks for the help.

Get the 2001+ spoilers which are more horizontal. The 1999-2000 had angled ones.

A body shop can do the installation, but not sure what you might pay.

If you look through old posts, you will find couple of threads on noise due to spoiler. The earlier spoilers were angled // to back door. There were TSBs and later the design changed to scheme where the defelector was more of extention of the roof line.

A few folks were so irate with the noise that they opted to remove the deflector. If you are installing one then there will be a need to drill holes. The choise would be DIY or body shop. There will be an issue with the color match. That may sway the balance to the bodyshop.

If you do DIY, pay careful atttention to mark the position properly. Watch out for the drill as it exits the hole ... if you have too much feed pressure, it wrikles the metal. A perfect flat hole will be easier to seal with the rubber grommets. When you buy the spoiler, make sure you get the threaded anchors and ruber gromets to seal the hole.

Form and Function: With the washer/wiper at the rear glass, the function of spoiler is diminished. Form is totally subjective. To me without spoiler the RX looks too rounded and and little too cute to my liking.

What holds the spoiler on besides the 2 bolts? Is there adhesive? Need to take mine off to refinish and paint. It's getting all crazed from the sun. 2003

Take the oval cover off. For sure the outer anchors have a bolt through them. I think the middle does not .. just make sure by removing the cover (if any on the middle one).

Once the bolts are out, dont expect that the spoiler will fall off [just be prepared it might if the sticky has dried]. You will have to rock it off gently.

You can check the assembly by looking at the diagrams on the parts store.
