Default tail light converter

Does anyone know the part number for the tailight converter that comes from the factory on an 99 RX that has factory installed hitch and wiring? The dealers don't seem to like giving out part numbers. Two of the dealers did not even know what I was talking about and could not find it in the Toyota parts book. Mine needs to be replaced. Also can you get it aftermarket or is it an exclusive Toyota part? Any suggestions as to where to purchase one at a reasonable price other than the dealer?

Try the Lexus parts with a different name like "trailer hitch electronic module". The old part should have the part number stamped on it.

Other approach will be to look up at the trailer hitch kit sold by Lexus and then they can find the part number from there.

Tail light failure mechanism gets activated by the "not within spec" current draw. So if you add trailer bulb load, the fail iight light up in the dash.

Does it mean it causes catastrophic failure ... or blowns fuse if you tap into the harness .... I dont know .. may be some one who had to do it in a pinch can share their experience.

Lastly ... if you search and go couple of years back ... trailer hitch ... you may find a post of a member who used Non-Lexus module.
