A/F ratio sensor question?
I'm looking to replace the A/F ratio sensors on My '99 RX300. I've read some posts that suggest replacing with aftermarket Denso sensors part # 234-9009 to save some $$$. Is that a good idea or should I replace with Toyota part # 89467-48011 from Lexus? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Althought that may work, it will not be as efficient...just stick with OEM.
Some of our Lexus car (as opposed to SUV) friends put postmarket MAFs for reasons of forced induction (Supra MAFs come to mind). That takes some ECM modification through chip or engine mangement system.
In a pinch, I had to modify a Camry ignition coil (since no Lexus in Mexico) until I could get one from the states. Although it worked, I could tell there was a slight difference (for the better) after I put in the new Lexus coil.
Just make sure you clean the red diode on the MAF now and then.

Toyota does not need to design and make all parts, no need to buy a cow just for the milk. Also it does not help to assume everything OEM is always better w/o checking who actually makes these parts.

my opinion still stands oem is best for stock applications
btw that person miss diagnosing it
After 5 days with the mechanic problem finally found:
PCV that I replaced didn't fit (must use OEM)
exhaust manifold is cracked and needs to be replaced. Per Mech-this can cause the codes to go crazy and read different stuff...
booo hooo!!!!$600-700 repair cost. Better than bad ECU...which he was leaning towards.
he did say that the car was in great shape and was well cared for by previous owner, so that makes me feel 100% better as I was falling out of love with this car and quick...I had these same issues with my 4-Runner, but no one could ever diagnose what the check engine light was on for on that one, that was why we parted company and I purchased the RX300.

Thanks for all of the imput everybody. I have read the links that everyone has posted and if what I'm reading is correct, Denso makes the A/F sensors that go on Lexus/Toyota vehicles. In fact, the A/F sensors on my RX300 have the Toyota part # 89467-48011 stamped on them with "Denso" also stamped on them. So is the Denso A/F ratio sensor part # 234-9009 identical in every way to the Toyota part # 89467-48011? It seems to be from what I've read, please correct me if I'm wrong.
